Bospar’s Response to Texas Abortion Law Awarded Bronze Medal in Inc.’s 2021 Best in Business List

SAN FRANCISCO – December 7, 2021Bospar, the “Politely Pushy®” PR firm that puts tech companies on the map, today announced that Inc. magazine has awarded the agency a bronze medal in the civic engagement category as part of Inc. magazine’s 2021 Best in Business list, the publication’s annual recognition program celebrating companies making the biggest impact on their communities, industries or society.

Bospar’s award came as a result of the agency’s announcement in September, following Texas’ decision to pass the country’s most restrictive limits on abortion, to pay the relocation costs of any Texas-based staff member who wanted to leave the state to retain control of their reproductive choices. In the wake of Bospar’s decision, numerous other companies, including giant software company Salesforce,  followed by making similar offers to workers. Television and print media outlets, from San Francisco to Florida, reported on Bospar’s story.

In the firm’s submission to Inc., Bospar wrote that the decision to launch the Texas Relocation Plan was not motivated by politics or ethics. Because Bospar’s staff is nearly 80% women, the agency acknowledged that it wanted to retain and attract “the best workforce imaginable.” Managers added that they also wanted to serve as a role model for other companies which were undecided about how to respond to a law that is “deeply unpopular among women and the workforce of tomorrow.”

“We’re grateful that Inc. has honored us with a bronze medal,” said Curtis Sparrer, a Bospar principal and co-founder. “In life and business, typically every issue has so much nuance. Rarely is right and wrong so clear as it was in this case. We didn’t set out to make any political statements or win recognition. Our goals were and are to bring attention to a sad and disturbing movement in this country to seize control of women’s right to choose what happens to their bodies. We also wanted to show well-meaning companies that they’re not powerless to act in these situations.”

The Best in Business List differs from Inc.’s other awards because it has little to do with sales or funding. From a pool of 2,700 entries, judges reviewed the kinds of positive changes and impacts companies made in the world and selected honorees from 49 industries, including finance, software, engineering, and fashion. The list of winners will appear in the winter issue of Inc. magazine, which hits newsstands on December 14.

The past year has seen Bospar win numerous industry awards. Last month, PRNews recognized the agency with three  Platinum PR Awards for 2021, including one for best product launch (consumer) for work done for client Bio Bidet. Earlier this year, Inc. magazine included Bospar in the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States, and PRovoke Media named the agency the winner of the Northern American SABRE award in the category of e-commerce. The agency was also named a PRovoke SABRE four-award recipient and received the title of Best in Corporate Branding for client Prodoscore during the PRWeek 2021 Awards. In its most recent ranking, the San Francisco Business Times named Bospar the seventh-largest Bay Area LGBT-owned business.
